Our goal is to empower vulnerable groups in the society to claim what state provides in the form of legal education; access to legal information; mechanisms of alternative dispute resolution including right to a fair trial and remedy.
Our commitment
Article 39-A of the Indian Constitution directs the state to secure the operation of the legal system to promote justice on the basis of equal opportunity. Asha Legal Aid is a not for profit group of law graduates, volunteers, legal practitioners who are committed to help the marginalized people for accessing their constitutional rights and to get a quality legal assistance not only in criminal matters but also for non-criminal matters.
Who can get free legal aid
- A Member of A Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe
- Victims of Human Trafficking
- A Woman or Child
- A Person With Disability
- Victim of A Mass Disaster, Ethnic, Violence, Caste Atrocity, Flood, Drought, Earthquake or Industrial Disaster
- An Industrial Workman
- In Custody
- Persons With An Annual Income of Less Than Rs.1,00,000/- or As Notified By The Central/State Govts.
Indian justice delivery system is complex, cumbersome and expensive
Every citizen is equal before the law. This sentence should be applied equally without exceptions. In fact, there are some cases which marginalize people who face problem to access quality legal assistance. For instance, People who live in plantation and agriculture area can not afford the best advocates to access the justice properly due to their conditions. Distance becomes their problem since the area is lack of public transportation.
